At Cold Wave Athletics, our Fundamentals Program is the perfect starting point for young athletes who are ready to learn the basics of cheerleading in a fun, safe, and encouraging environment.

Whether your child dreams of joining a competitive team or simply wants to explore the excitement of cheer, our fundamental classes teach the core skills, confidence, and teamwork needed to build a strong foundation for success.

Program Goals

Program Overview

Ages: 3–12

Skill Levels: Beginner – Introductory

Class Focus:

  • Cheer motions & technique

  • Basic jumps and arm placements

  • Intro to stunting (ground-level, partner drills)

  • Tumbling foundations (rolls, bridges, cartwheels)

  • Cheer chants, spirit, and performance skills

Fundamentals is designed to prepare athletes for future team placement while building confidence, coordination, and discipline.

Class Focus Breakdown

  • Athletes learn proper arm placement, motion names, and body alignment while practicing precision and strength.

    • Sharp, clean arm motions (high V, low V, T, broken T, daggers)

    • Coordination, rhythm, and motion memory

    • Drills to improve strength, sharpness, and timing

    Focus: Developing clean technique and control through repetition and form.

  • Athletes build strength and flexibility for cheer jumps while learning correct approach, takeoff, and landing form.

    • Basic jump training: T-jumps, toe touches, and pikes

    • Leg and core conditioning for power and control

    • Flexibility drills to increase range of motion and balance

    Focus: Safe jump progressions that build toward advanced skills later.

  • Early exposure to teamwork and trust through safe, ground-based stunting.

    • Basic partner stunts (knee stands, thigh stands, shoulder sits)

    • Learning base, flyer, and spotter roles

    • Emphasis on grip, stability, and communication

    Focus: Building teamwork, timing, and safety awareness.

  • Fundamental floor skills that build strength, coordination, and confidence.

    • Forward rolls, cartwheels, and bridges

    • Handstand and backbend drills

    • Body control, core engagement, and flexibility

    Focus: Proper form, strength, and confidence before advancing to power skills.

  • Athletes learn short cheer routines that build rhythm, projection, and showmanship.

    • Chanting with confidence and voice control

    • Synchronizing words and motions

    • Team energy, smiles, and crowd leadership

    Focus: Developing confidence and performance skills with spirit and enthusiasm.
